Identifying and Diagnosing the Problem
The Mississippi initiative has the potential to be especially impactful for Black and African Americans with low incomes because they are disproportionately affected by chronic conditions like coronary artery disease, hypertension, obesity, diabetes, and invasive cancers.
Designing and Implementing Change
The MS team is uniquely positioned to explore how to advance health equity in Mississippi beyond Medicaid members because of its partnership with the State’s Department of Health (MSDH). As a non-Medicaid agency, MSDH’s presence on the team will increase the accessibility of the interventions because they will be available to all Mississippians regardless of their Medicaid status.
In its partnership with MSDH, the MS team will work to identify possible payment mechanisms and approaches through MSDH to make their health equity efforts long-lasting and sustainable.
